What is Sibos conference?

For one week every year, our client brings together some 8,000 business leaders, decision-makers and topic experts from a range of financial institutions, market infrastructures, multinational corporations and technology partners at its premier financial services event called Sibos. The event is the best place for the financial industry leaders to discuss business strategy, build networks and collectively shape the future of the industry. It brings together hundreds of speakers and conference sessions, nearly 200 exhibitors, and multiple networking events.

Business challenge

Error-prone event app failing to meet the needs of a global conference audience

Our client had a conference management mobile application for Sibos. The app plays a critical role in enhancing the attendee experience by allowing participants to register, view event sessions, browse speaker profiles, and stay updated with the latest event news.

However, despite its importance, the app suffered from performance and stability issues, resulting in the following key challenges:

  • Frequent app crashes causing disruptions in user experience
  • Unresponsive behaviour during navigation, especially under heavy user load
  • Recurring technical errors that reduced user confidence and satisfaction
  • Lack of stability and scalability needed to support a large, global audience
  • Need for ongoing maintenance and support to ensure continued reliability and performance

Faced with these ongoing problems, the client reached out to us to stabilise the platform, enhance its functionality, and provide long-term support.

Project Goals

The project entailed the following requirements:

  • Stabilise the existing mobile application to eliminate frequent crashes and improve responsiveness.
  • Enhance overall app performance to deliver a smooth and seamless user experience across all supported devices.
  • Ensure compatibility with modern devices and OS versions while continuing to work within the constraints of an obsolete Objective-C codebase.
  • Avoid a complete tech stack upgrade to keep development costs low.
  • Establish a maintenance plan for ongoing support, updates, and enhancements post-stabilisation.

To address the challenges and deliver a stable, user-friendly app, we followed a structured process:

Discovery & requirements gathering

We began by understanding the client’s vision, evaluating the legacy codebase, and clearly defining the scope of work. Wireframes were created to help the client visualize the improved app experience from the outset.

Technical
assessment

Our team conducted a thorough analysis of the outdated Objective-C code, identifying key problem areas and planning upgrades without changing the core tech stack.

Agile
development

Adopting an Agile methodology, we executed the project in bi-weekly sprints, focusing on incremental improvements. Development included enhancements for iOS and Android, backend integration, and third-party SDK implementation.

Testing & quality assurance

We performed rigorous testing throughout the development cycle to ensure stability, performance, and compatibility across all supported devices and OS versions.

The app implements a custom wayfinding solution by offering interactive floor plans and integration with the latest beacon technology.

It enables the event participants to locate conference room, exhibitors, food stalls, lounges, and meeting rooms.

Inter-Participant Communication

Using QUICKBLOX, we developed messaging features that enabled users of the app to communicate with other attendees in real-time. They can also exchange business cards by a simple scan of the unique code assigned to each delegate. The application also works in offline mode and part of the application works even without internet connectivity.

Interacting With Session Panels

At conference sessions of the event, participants are able to use interact with the panel and presenters using the Sibos mobile app. This interaction utilizes the Sli.do technology that we integrated with the mobile app.
